Programme Information
The Nurture Africa Volunteer Programme provides you with the unique opportunity to use your skills to support our ongoing work in Uganda, immerse yourself in a unique cultural setting and deepen your awareness and understanding of international development efforts.
Programme Structure
Phase 1: Pre-Placement: Two Programme Days in Ireland.
Phase 2: In Country: A two or three week placement in Uganda with your volunteer group where you will be hosted by our team in Nansana. You will be immersed in day-to-day life for the duration of your placement in this bustling and very welcoming community.
Phase 3: Post-Placement: One Programme Day in Ireland to close the programme.
Please note: You must commit to and participate in all phases in order to be accepted to the programme.
The Application Process
Due to limited spaces on each placement, the application process is competitive.
1. Submit a completed application form
2. Provide, as requested, the details for two referees
2. Complete an interview process
3. Agree to respect and abide by our Volunteer Programme Code of Conduct.
4. Complete Police Clearance Checks
5. Return required paperwork if accepted to the programme.
2025 Placement dates:
Placement One: 6th - 27th June (Healthcare Programme now FULL)
Placement Two: 27th June - 18th July
Placement Three: 18th July - 8th August (Student Teaching Programme now FULL)
October Placement: 10th - 24th October

Placement Information
Teaching placements are ONLY available to qualified and student teachers in 2nd year as a minimum. Students will be accompanied by a qualified Ugandan and/or Irish teacher for placement activities.
Volunteer Role
You will be placed alongside a team of fellow volunteers in one of Nurture Africa's partner schools. Activities will include peer to peer workshops and classroom time together with Ugandan teaching staff.
Outside of the classroom you will have the opportunity to take part in activities that will introduce you to the broader work of Nurture Africa including healthcare, income generation and nutrition projects. You will also meet families who are being supported by Nurture Africa on a daily basis and are working to create a brighter future for themselves.

Healthcare Programme
Placement Information
Medical placements are available to qualified and student applicants (completed 2nd year as a minimum), studying in a relevant medical field.
Volunteer Role
Your volunteer activities will focus on both health centre and community healthcare operations. Alongside your volunteer team and staff from the Nurture Africa health Centre, you will work within Nurture Africa's annual work plan and take part in timetabled activities such as voluntary counselling and testing for HIV, primary healthcare, community home visits and community healthcare workshops with primary and secondary school children.

General Skills Programme

Placement Information
The General Skills Programme is open to anyone over the age of 20 regardless of professional or academic background. You will be supporting various Nurture Africa projects which supplement our strong health and education focus.
Volunteer Role
Activities during this placement will be predominantly based within Nurture Africa's partners schools and at Nurture Africa headquarters. The activities include library reading sessions with primary schools children, basic first aid workshops, learning about and tending to our demonstration vegetable plots. Training material and resources will be provided to ensure that you are prepared for your role.
You will also be introduced to the broader work of Nurture Africa including healthcare, education and income generation. You will meet families who are being supported by Nurture Africa on a daily basis and are working to create a brighter future for themselves.
