Codes & Guidelines

Why are Codes, Policies & Guidelines important?

Nurture Africa works to achieve and maintain the highest possible standards across its operations in Uganda and Ireland. The codes, policies and guidelines which Nurture Africa has agreed to abide by, uphold and strive to achieve, enables the organisation to measure itself against standards set by the Charity Regulator and the international development sector as a whole.

Governance Codes

Charity Regulator Governance Code

The Charities Governance Code explains the minimum standards that must be met to effectively manage and control the charity. Good governance includes putting systems and processes in place to ensure that Nurture Africa achieves its charitable objectives with integrity and is managed in an effective, efficient, accountable and transparent way.

Irish Development NGO’s Code of Corporate Governance

The Aim of the Irish Development NGO’s Code of Corporate Governance is to determine and formulate standards of best practice in corporate governance applicable to the Development NGO sector with a view to strengthening the impact and quality of Development NGO work and enhancing stakeholder confidence in the sector.

The Dóchas Charter

This Charter outlines what it means to be a member of Dóchas and signals this both to our members and to the wider world. It was drawn up in consultation with Dóchas members, volunteers and staff.

Comhlámh Code of Good Practice for Volunteer Sending Agencies

Comhlámh’s Code of Good Practice is a set of standards for Irish Volunteer Sending Agencies facilitating international placements. The Code is based on a vision of volunteers working in solidarity for a just, equitable and sustainable world. It promotes responsible and responsive volunteering to ensure a positive impact for the overseas project and community, the volunteer and the sending agency. The Code promotes development education, which enables people to more deeply understand the world around us and to address the root causes of inequality and poverty. Every Volunteer Sending Agency, which is party to the Code of Good Practice, commits to the implementation of the Code’s five values that underpin the work of international volunteer programmes. These are: Solidarity, Respect , Social Justice, Ecological Sustainability, Integrity More details of Comhlámh’s work can be found here: www.comhlamh.org
